Upgrade of the testing chambers from functional check to current monitoring with values important for quality management
Flexible change between four different maximum AC voltages from 50 V to 230 V in the testing chambers
Integration of safety engineering into the same controller as for standard automation
At the Bosch Power Tools plant in Murrhardt, premium
quality power tools are produced. Function testing plays an important role. The
company has a unit dedicated to producing its own production equipment, and one
of their tasks is to build test chambers that are used to confirm the
performance of their tools by means of current monitoring. Measuring instruments
with IO-Link communication have proved to be the best solution for this task.
Instead of temperature sensors attached at the tools, Bosch Power Tools uses SIRIUS 3UG4822 current monitoring relays in the testing chambers, which are directly connected to the distributed I/O SIMATIC ET 200SP via IO-Link and which provide more data for enhanced diagnostics. Furthermore, safety engineering is integrated into the same platform as for standard automation by using the fail-safe F-CPU on the distributed I/O system. The complete engineering was performed via TIA Portal.
Quality management benefits from current monitoring
Simplified engineering and reduced wiring outlay
Space savings in the control cabinet, amongst others by integration of safety engineering
