An innovative and renewable energy supply was to be set up for the new administrative building of RhönEnergie Effizienz + Service GmbH and an adjacent residential and commercial area. The aim was to achieve a sustainable supply at marketable heating prices for the customers in the neighborhood. The contractor aimed for a supply with almost 100% renewable energy.
To work out the optimal supply solution, a feasibility study was prepared as part of the Heat Network Systems 4.0 funding program. The potential analysis of the available sources showed that a nearby wastewater collector can be used as the main energy source. Based on this, a supply system was developed that can provide cooling and heating by means of a wastewater heat exchanger and two brine-to-water heat pumps. The supply system is supported by a biomethane cogeneration plant and a peak load boiler, as well as several PV systems on the building roofs.
