The Borcelik Bursa steel plant operates many motors within their processes. The motors are used for the production process for more than 10 years and need to be reliable even under harsh conditions.
As an output of an energy audit, the customer wanted to increase
the energy savings of its motors.
That's why the customer wanted
Siemens to provide a suitable retrofit solution for their 26 existing motors.
Siemens service experts proposed to replace the inefficient motors with new, state-of-the-art low-voltage electric motors: SIMOTICS 1LE1 and 1LE5 series IE4. They conform to IEC and NEMA standards and they are highly efficient.
As a result of the feasibility report, 4.5%
energy saving potential was detected with a return
of investment of 1.6 years.

Measurement and verification
Siemens was able to win the customers trust since the energy performance was guaranteed. Furthermore, the power
consumption has been reduced from 17,954 GWh to 17,147 GWh per year. Preliminary calculations showed that the average ratio
of saving can be 4.5%. The pay-back time will be three years, after that period
of time the customer will approximately save 69,000€ per year.
