Evaluation
of surface-water-quality is generally done by manual sampling and analysis in
specific laboratories. Such evaluations are done roughly once per one or two
months. It is evident that this frequency does not give evidence about hazardous
events, daily or weekly changes of water quality etc.

gives a transparent output and therefore a better understanding of specific
water quality situations and opportunities to manage related processes e.g. for
hazardous events, river basin management etc.
The pilot sensor station is situated
close to the city of Knin at the river Krka just downstream of an industrial
facility producing metal products. The station is equipped with sensors to
measure water quality paramaters like Chemical Oxygen Demand, Nitrate,
Turbidity or Colour online. Data is transmitted directly to the Siemens
cloud platform MindSphere and converted into a specific Water Quality
Index for this river and region. Connecting to MindSphere one can get an easy
overview of the recent water quality and define furhter
activties.
