The customer wants to proceed on their digital journey by increasing transparency and optimizing production workflows. With a typical brownfield environment (existing
tools, running production and limited space) this becomes a challenge in the factory in Nuremberg. In addition, the manufacturing of transformers is still a mostly manual process, with a low degree of automation – every product is built unique to meet customers’ exact needs.
A customized version of Location Intelligence based on the locating system SIMATIC RTLS was
deployed in a POC (Proof of Concept) covering the final assembly of the traction transformer production.
Transponders of the locating system are attached to the transformer tanks.
This way, Location Intelligence can provide transparency over the transformer production by:
Visualizing the progress of the order on the factory layout of the customer.
Analyze throughput times of an order or make comparisons across orders with the help of the throughput feature of Location Intelligence*.
Furthermore, the position information of the transformers is used to optimize the workflows on the shop floor:
The moment, the transformer has reached the final step of the assembly, the completion time is automatically written to SAP*.
Whenever a transformer arrives at a working station, the respective technical documentation is automatically downloaded from the documentation management tool to be accessed by the worker*.
