Classic
leak detection methods only cover very small sections of water networks. With
the analysis of satellite images leaks in entire water supply networks can now
systematically be detected and documented in a single step. Utilis
Ltd. – a Siemens partner from Israel provides a technology consisting of a
specialized radar signal (SAR) generated from satellites which are analyzed
with a patented algorithm and processed to identify specific indicators of wet
soil saturated with potable water, screening out the signal noise and other
interferences. The result is a map showing likely leak locations as Points of
Interest (POI).
Satellite-image was obtained and processed using the
innovative technology to identify water losses in critical areas (old town) of the
distribution network.
The detected leakage points were inspected by an
experienced field inspection crew.
A total of 28 leaks were verified pursuant to the
satellite survey program.
An average of 4.0 leaks was found per crew day and 0.8
leaks were found per kilometer inspected.

PVK operates the water management infrastructure of the City of Prague. It is in charge of
producing and distributing drinking water and draining and treating wastewater. It focuses on
customer services helping to improve and simplify contacts with customers. PVK observes
Customer Service Commitments, which are on a par with the European standards of the parent
Veolia Eau Group. In addition to its core business, PVK also offers services to external
customers such as detection of hidden faults and failures, surveys and measurements in the
