Modernization is one of Siemens' most economical solutions to extend the lifecycle of an entire plant. The customer Göltas Cement operated their system with old motor and drives generations which caused frequent machine breakdowns and had limited spare part availability. Hence, the customer needed a retrofit solution to increase the availability of their machine and the required spare parts.

Siemens Service experts recommended a suitable drive system retrofit solution, which included the following phases: 

Phase 1: Modernization of the drives at the exhaust fans

• 1 x SINAMICS S120 (2400kW) 

Phase 2: Modernization of the motors and drives of the air recirculation

• 1 x 630kW SIMOTICS SD next generation motor 
• 2 x SINAMICS G130 12-Pulse 630kW (2 x 315kW Parallel) 

Phase 3: Modernization of an inefficient medium voltage motor 630kw (3rd party)

• 1 x 630kW SIMOTICS SD next generation motor
• 1 x Closed-loop control by adding a drive

Göltaş Cement was established to meet cement requirement of Isparta, Burdur, Antalya and Denizli regions as first 600.000 ton/year capacity private sector cement factory in 1969 with its 2000 associations. Main subject of the activity of Göltaş Cement is producing clinker, cement and plant mixed concrete by using high technology and fully automated systems. These products are presented to both domestic and foreign markets.
