Nastola Finland
With approximately 800 professionals in ten countries, Raute is the global market leader as machine builder (OEM) in the wood industry that manufacture veneer, plywood, LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) and sawn timber with headquater in Lahti/Finland. Raute's technology offering covers machinery and equipment for the customer's entire production process.
The customer had the following objectives:
The objective for Raute is to secure the proper delivery of the real production line - “smart patching line” - to the end customer with all required functions just in time. The target for future projects is to use this digital twin repeatedly, whose main benefit is to validate concepts and minimize risks before manufacturing the real machine.
Digital Twin - Software in the loop – covering multiple S7-1500(T)F controllers and 15.000 simulation tags:
to validate the design and functionality of the line-control and smart patching stations
to perform virtual commissioning before shipping the real machine on site.
"In addition to the necessary technological know-how, Siemens also had the tools to identify the most critical developments in the production process."
Petri Strengell, Vice President Operations at RAUTE
Saves time during design phase because of parallel work in the different disciplines with the digital twin
Increases end customers satisfaction because of early inclusion, validation and acknowledgement of end-customers requirements with the digital twin
Minimizes the risk of delay during commissioning on site because the main part is already tested before with the digital twin
The project consists of a creation of a digital twin and the implementation of a virtual commissioning of a 50m long smart patching line for the new designed machine sections material infeed and baseplate removal.
