The pressing equipment of the customer is large and expensive, which means the equipment maintenance is time-consuming and labor-consuming. The spare parts are very expensive and an unplanned shutdown would seriously affect the overall production.

That's why the customer wants a service solution to predict the potential risk of an upcoming downtime and take actions in advance, to avoid or reduce the unplanned shutdown.
Siemens Smart Predictive Maintenance for Presses collects field data, runs big data analysis according to a pre-established model and provides guiding maintenance suggestions:
  • Siemens Service experts deployed 62 vibration sensors and 10 temperature sensors to collect the operation data of key equipment including DC motor, gearbox and bearing box in real time. Each sensor collects more than 20,000 vibration data per second. 
  • The system analyzes a huge amount of data based on machine learning technology to form a healthy model, an abnormal detection model and a trend analysis model etc. Then pre-established these models in the system. 
  • The system sends notifications and provides maintenance suggestions when detecting abnormal deviations with newly collected data.

Since officially launched in December 2019, the system has helped Beijing Benz successfully to predict many potential equipment failures. For example in May 2020, the system found that the motor vibration of the stretching hydraulic station is abnormal. Once it stops working, the overall production line will be shut down and it may take four or five hours to replace spare parts. After receiving the system warning, Beijing Benz carried out maintenance in time, quickly located the root problem and replaced the spare parts without affecting the overall production.
