"To ensure correct settlement of the CO2 tax, we need to be able to document to the authorities exactly how much ash we mix in. We use the scale both to comply with all regulations to the authorities and to regulate the addition so that we get the right mixing ratio"
A MMI-2 belt conveyor scale installed in a telestacker enables Avedøreværket to prepare an accurate CO2 statement for the authorities. The scale weighs the fly ash that is added to the biofuel as the ash travels on a conveyor belt.
A simple solution with some modern technology from Siemens has proved to be a stroke of genius at the Avedøreværket. By installing a legal-for-trade approved scale under the conveyor belt that adds wet fly ash to the biofuel, Ørsted can provide accurate calculations of CO2 emissions to the authorities.
Although the legal-for-trade-approved weight is unique, the whole setup of the plant ended up being simpler than first planned. Originally, Avedøreværket had purchased a pumping system to add the wet fly ash to the biomass, but the ash clumped together in the pipes, causing several challenges. This was solved by a much simpler solution, where the wet fly ash is instead placed on an open telestacker. Avedøreværket has both the biomass and the ash transported to the plant's own harbour, and a front-end loader transports the ash from the storage yards to a stacker on the telestacker.
The only challenge with this solution was to control the
amount of ash, and this was solved with the legal-for-trade -approved weight.
