CARTESIO Packaging - CAVANNA Group
Pianezza (TO) Italy
CARTESIO Packaging, a 100% stake in the CAVANNA Group, is the name that has characterized the Group's Cartoning & Casepacking Division since 2005. CARTESIO designs and produces secondary packaging solutions with a high level of specialization (wrap-around, cartoning casepacking, palletizing).
For the Wrap-Around Cartoner model WA3, CARTESIO wanted to realize a reliable and performing machine, while reducing the complexity of the cabinet. Less cables, compact components, one fieldbus and software integration are the key points to achive simplicity during the hardware and software engineering of the machine, as well as in the building and commissioning phase.
The WA3 features a full-Siemens solution.
SIMATIC S7-1500TF: Reliable PLC for machine
Logic, Motion Control and Safety
Sinamics S210 and Simotics 1FK2 with One Cable technology for the servo axis
Sinamics G120C converters for the conveyor belts
SIMATIC Comfort Panel for the HMI
TIA Portal: one tool for all
automation purposes
SITOP 24V power supply with UPS1600 and
BAT1600 for increased availability.
The customer managed to reduce the componets in the cabinet, thanks to the Safety Integrated concept (no external safety relais required) and the use of a single, all-purpouse, fieldbus, Profinet. Less components lead to higher robustness.
The availability has also been increased thanks to the UPS1600 with the energy storage BAT1600. The battery allows to overcome short-term voltage dips and to safely stop the machine in case of long power failures. Less cabling is a plus too. The Profisafe communication to the servo-drives and converters runs over the same Profinet cable as the standard communication, keeping from cabling a lot of safety terminals. The One Cable technology of the servo-drives Sinamics S210 reduces the cabling efforts too.
Less unplanned machine downtime, thanks to the UPS, lead to a productivity increase by 5%. Performance was kept while
reducing engineering and commissioning time by 20%, due to TIA Portal
integration of Motion Control and Safety. Building up the machines was 20%
faster than before, thanks to less cables in the machine and
less components in the cabinet.
