The client and operator of the tunnel is the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA). The contract for the automation and the control system was awarded to a consortium (Arbeitsgemeinschaft zur gemeinsamen Ausführung eines Bauprojekts) consisting of the companies Officine Rigamonti from Cantone in Ticino and the management and IT consulting company Sopra Steria with a branch in Zurich.The project scope for the automation of San Fedele tunnel includes the light control, the signal systems, the ventilation system, and some auxiliary facilities.
The connection to the management system was accomplished with close coordination with the end customer ASTRA, the Swiss federal office for road transport infrastructure. ASTRA is using OPC UA as a standard for the communication within the management system and with the Superior Canton management system.
The project scope for the automation of San Fedele tunnel includes the light control, the signal systems, the ventilation system, and some auxiliary facilities.For highest transparency in the whole system, the decision was made to connect the SIMATIC S7-1500 via OPC UA.
The ready to use SCL-commands make the time consuming creation of If-then-else routines needless. The program gets more compact and clear. Test, commissioning and changes can be done easier.
