The customer operates three SIMOVERT MV converters to drive 2 motors in their redundant system. Since the existing SIMOVERT MV series was discontinued in 2006 and replaced by a successor the supply of spare parts is already restricted. Furthermore the customer suffered from technical issues with one of the converters. Since the customer wants to ensure the availability of their plant, they want Siemens to perform a suitable retrofit of their converters. Furthermore it was important for the customer to keep their existing water cooling system.

In a first step Siemens offered a suitable retrofit solution consisting of the delivery and commissioning of a SINAMICS GM150 converter to replace one of the old SIMOVERT MV converters. The first converter has been replaced in 2016. Within the six months delivery time Siemens was able to provide the customer with spare parts for the old SIMOVERT MV.

The second converter will be replaced in 2018.
