Sustainability
  • AUTEFA Solutions is a multinational company that’s serious about sustainability.
  • Specializing in nonwovens, baling, long-staple spinning, and automation technologies, the company chose Siemens as its trusted technology partner to design a solution that would reduce its carbon footprint and lower its environmental impact at its production facility in Linz, Austria.
  • In-depth consultation with AUTEFA Solutions provided Siemens’ experts with insights into the challenges the company faced when meeting its sustainability and energy efficiency goals. These insights helped to develop the best technology solution for the facility; a solution that included a reliable and sustainable energy source so AUTEFA Solutions could reduce dependence on energy markets and lower its risks and energy costs.
  • An initial energy audit revealed consumption levels and energy inefficiencies which Siemens used to form the core of the digital turnkey solution.
  • Using cloud-based energy and asset management platform Navigator  – the team was able to develop a digital overview of the site’s energy needs, and by integrating energy procurement, consumption, and system performance data, could optimize the system.  A key element of the overall solution was the implementation of Desigo building automation, which is part of Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.
  • Desigo allows AUTEFA Solutions to control the heating across the facility according to usage and temperature requirements of different zones to reduce energy consumption and cost. Finally, the installation of a biomass boiler contributes to the energy independence that was so crucial to AUTEFA Solutions overall strategy.
“We chose to work with Siemens because they had the flexibility and agility to achieve a solution that could be deployed at speed. They had a personal touch and a consultative approach which allowed them to quickly understand our sustainability goals. The result has been a huge reduction in our energy consumption and a significant drop in our CO₂ emissions.”
André Imhof, CEO AUTEFA Solutions Austria and AUTEFA Solutions Switzerland
  • By taking a forward-thinking approach and leveraging smart technology, the outcome achieved AUTEFA Solutions’ ambition to harness clean energy and create a more sustainable future.
  • AUTEFA Solutions’ site at Linz now operates a solar photovoltaic system and biomass heating system that has reduced its dependency on fossil fuels and provides operational flexibility. In fact, the solution has allowed the company to save 800 tons of CO₂ annually. It also clearly shows the company’s commitment to being environmentally responsible and sustainable for future generations.
