Managing unpredictable fluctuations in fuel prices posed a significant challenge. The customer wanted to find ways to mitigate the impact of volatile fuel pricing while ensuring financial sustainability.

framework was a multifaceted challenge.

Siemens provided a secondary control microgrid solution that connects with the tertiary control system, the transmission grid, and the primary control equipment.
The system includes a 36 MW solar power plant and a 7.5 MW battery energy storage system. These components are seamlessly integrated into the existing diesel power plant.
Our scope includes supply of A8000 controller with microgrid license and SICAM SCC, configuration, bench test, FAT.
JUWI selected Siemens' SICAM microgrid controller due to its ability to
meet their functional requirements. This application, named the Hybrid IQ
controller, leverages the advanced capabilities of the SICAM microgrid
controller to improve energy efficiency and reliability in mining operations.
JUWI was responsible for planning, designing, installing, and
commissioning the microgrid controller for the end customer Centamin, ensuring
seamless integration and optimal functioning of the assets.

The
major outcome of the project is the avoidance of consuming 21.5 million litres of
diesel, which reduces customers' exposure to fuel price volatility.
The
project successfully
avoided
57,000 tons of
CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions.
The
project generated 86,700 MWh of power.
The costs and risks for diesel, gas or heavy oil systems, including maintenance and service costs, were significantly reduced.
