Sustainability
Con Edison is a large multi-organizational utility in New York City, Orange, and Rockland County that completed a $1.4 billion dollar AMI project on time and under budget
  • Mandated as part of NY REV to roll out full scale AMI throughout the community with 5.1 million meters (3.9 million electric & 1.2 million gas meters)
  • Support hourly pricing tariffs for business consumers
  • Improve lack of transparency in the low-voltage network (significant portions underground)
  • Poor electric service reliability perceived as reason for delays in NYC subway system
  • Meter data management that supports unique business rules for gas meters compared to electric as well as early detection of methane gas leaks
  • Horizontal and vertical scalability were important to meet SLAs
Con Edison implemented Gridscale X Meter Data Management to:
  • Receive near real-time data in 5-minute intervals for C&I customers and 15-minute intervals for residental customers
  • Proactively identify missing intervals to prevent outages before customer calls
  • EnergyIP Event Data and Action Management (EDAM) used to detect real-time meter alarms, e.g., hot sockets and methane leaks
  • Uniquely architected to handle the complexity of multi-commodity, single/multi-service points, and account level billing requirements
Gridscale X Meter Data Management is a vital system for Con Edison. It provides teams throughout the company with valuable near real-time data that will be used not only for billing our customers and for operational needs, but to support the initiatives of groups that are involved with our clean energy commitment.
Mike Mangialino, AMI Information Technology Department, Con Edison
A top-notch MDM allowed Con Edison to achieve the stated NY REV goals and improved efficiency, reliability and support of new business models. Customer engagement and transparency is possible in near-real time. They can leverage AMI outage data to gain transparency into the low-voltage network and reduce outage response times. 5-minute and 15-minute intervals used to monitor key performance indicators for business operations and system health.
