DB Fernverkehr sought to modernize and expand its high-speed ICE fleet while preserving balance sheet flexibility and operational control.
Introducing a new financing model for ICE rolling stock required a structure that aligned with long-term fleet strategy, sustainability objectives, and operational requirements.
The transaction needed to support climate-friendly transport while meeting stringent EU sustainability standards.

The financing was structured by Siemens Financial Services (Financial Advisory and Siemens Bank) with BayernLB and DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing as a long-term operating lease under a framework agreement with DAL, marking the first time DB Fernverkehr has used an operate leasing solution for its ICE fleet.
Siemens Bank participated in a consortium led by BayernLB to provide close to €1 billion in loan to the leasing company for 25 new ICE 3neo high-speed trains manufactured by Siemens Mobility.
The transaction demonstrates a One Siemens approach, combining Siemens Mobility’s rolling stock technology with SFS structuring and asset-based financing expertise.

With this groundbreaking financing solution, we support Deutsche Bahn in expanding its fleet with state-of-the-art ICE 3neo trains from Siemens Mobility, making a significant contribution to climate friendly long- distance transportation. The financing supports the ICE fleet modernisation, enhancing capacity, reliability, and passenger comfort across Germany’s long-distance rail network.
