For over 70 years, Dema has distinguished itself as a leader in industrial automation, designing and manufacturing automatic machines for the automotive, home appliance, and heavy industry sectors. This leadership has been built on deep expertise in key industrial processes such as assembly, welding, quality control, and packaging, with a particular focus on electric motors.
One year ago, Dema launched an ambitious project aimed at developing a machine capable of integrating and testing new technologies, both in automated production processes and in internal workflows.
This vision led to the development of the Smart Digital Inspection System, a platform designed to enhance performance through advanced digitalisation solutions.
At the heart of this innovation is Siemens Industrial Edge, an open and ready-to-use edge computing IT platform featuring industrial-grade devices, integrated multi-vendor connectivity, and centralised management for both devices and applications.
The platform also includes a marketplace with easy access to applications developed by Siemens and partners within its ecosystem. Industrial Edge enables the deployment of advanced applications to improve efficiency, without the need to modify existing automation software.
By adopting this solution, Dema was able to implement various functions through a single platform:
  • AI algorithms for anomaly detection
  • High-frequency torque analysis on motors
  • Rotor quality inspection using vision systems
Thanks to the Live Twin application, it became possible to simulate the ideal behaviour of the process in real time, allowing for continuous and precise comparison with operational parameters.
A crucial element of the project was the use of the digital twin: a virtual replica of the Smart Digital Inspection System that enabled testing and optimisation in a simulated environment.
This approach significantly reduced commissioning times and related costs. Furthermore, with the support of the Simatic Robot Simulator and Siemens’ Robot Library, the software could be designed and validated without the need for a physical robot, ensuring both hardware flexibility and modular software development.
The collaboration between Dema and Siemens transformed sequential processes into parallel workflows, reducing delivery times and increasing overall machine reliability.
AI-powered vision systems not only prevent issues such as wear and tear but also ensure quality control that can adapt to future production challenges. This project is a tangible example of how the synergy between industry leaders can generate breakthrough innovation.
Technologies such as artificial intelligence and simulation not only support rapid market adaptation but also deliver added value for tomorrow’s customers.
The Smart Digital Inspection System embodies a concrete vision of innovation, demonstrating that with a data-driven approach and strategic collaboration, it is possible to redefine the standards of industrial automation.
