Customer wanted a SCADA to encompass the function of 2 HMI’s on site, both new within the same project.

We wanted to provide this solution in the easiest and least labour intensive way possible.

The 2 HMI’s were already configured with WinCC Unified so we surmised it would be the most efficient to load WinCC unified PC Runtime on a PC and adapt the screens and configuration to suit the larger screen size and bring both projects together.

This was easy, copying and pasting in tags, alarms, screens, log files, text lists etc. - This is due to the technology used behind WinCC Unified (linux OS) which allows the runtime of the project to be deployed on any of the WinCC Unified Devices from basic panels to PC Runtimes, due to the web technology that displays the physical runtime this allows the sizing of the screens to be adopted with a one click ‘resize screen’ option. (subject to resolution may require some manual moving of items to enhance UI).

There was a bit of work to be done to make a single overview screen and the individual screens needed to be worked on. Sometimes the screen seemed bare when moving from a smaller resolution to larger. We needed to either expand the graphics a little or amalgamate 2 screens together in order for the mimic to not look “lost”.

There was some difficulty setting up kiosk mode but once it was configured properly is works as intended.

By and large it was a much more simple process that starting from scratch on WinCC V8 as we would have had to create all of our faceplates from scratch and draw all mimics again.
