Ege Carpets is a company that manufactures carpets and sells them worldwide. Their production relies on the steam boiler used for the dyeing of the carpets. This steam boiler previously ran on natural gas, which was both a major emitter and also a risk in terms of supply security. Therefore, the goal for Ege Carpets was to replace the natural gas-fired steam boiler with a better solution.

The collaboration between Ege Carpets and Siemens included the replacement of natural gas-fired steam boilers with electric steam boilers (4 MW) at the factories in Gram and Herning. In addition, two new 10 kV transformers with 3,500 ampere bus bars were installed to supply the electric boilers. In the solution, the waste heat from the compressors is utilized as process air, which means that the waste heat is used to preheat the feed water to the electric boiler. Both factories, including the electric boilers, have been connected to the A-low voltage network instead of the B-low voltage network, which provides a lower tariff price. The electric boiler in Gram is also connected with limited grid access, which provides a significant saving in the connection fee to the grid company.
