Eisackwerk GmbH, the operator of the St. Anton hydro power plant, aimed to modernize the facility within an environmentally protected area to achieve over 10% increased efficiency and reduce environmental impact. For this, their partner, Troyer AG, sought a solution that addresses key challenges such as minimizing landscape impact, achieving precise grid synchronization without a buffer lake, and integrating high-capacity, compact switchgear.

• Four VB1 generator switchgears with vacuum switching technology as part of a retrofit project.
• The switchgears are equipped with a main-disconnector current and voltage transformers, surge arrestors, earthing switches, and interlocks, all required by international standards for safe and proper operation.
• They feature a rated voltage of 17.5 kV, a rated operating current of 2,900 A, and a rated short-term current of 63 kA.
• Indoor application.
• Cable connections on both generator and transformer side.

With an installed power of 72 MW and an annual production of 270 GWh, St. Anton is the fifth-largest hydro power plant in South Tyrol.
