IMA aimed to respond to increasing market demand for more flexible and efficient packaging solutions by evolving beyond traditional rule-based machine control. The objective was to accelerate commissioning and reduce time-to-market, while enabling machines to adapt dynamically to different product formats and production conditions. At the same time, IMA sought to leverage simulation and data-driven approaches to minimize physical testing and lay the foundation for a new generation of AI-enabled, self-adaptive automation systems.

Together with Siemens, IMA Group developed an advanced automation solution that combines digital twin technology, synthetic data generation, and Industrial AI embedded directly into the machine control system. Through simulated production scenarios, machine behavior can be trained and validated before physical deployment, enabling a shift from traditional rule-based programming to adaptive, data-driven control.

Siemens also supported the project with engineering expertise, integration of automation technologies within the PLC environment, and guidance across simulation, validation, and implementation phases, ensuring a seamless transition from digital modeling to real machine performance.
