MTorres, has a long and recognized track record in supplying converting machine equipment capable of meeting most demanding unwinding / rewinding process requirements. While leading the market in laminating procesess of composite materials. Furthermore, they manufactured wind mills and are specialized in the aeronautic industry. Objectives: High performance, process productivity, machine availability and service quality are the main objectives of MTorres. Challenges:
Accurate web tension control for optimal product quality
Need for precise web behavior models for virtual commissioning
New substrates along with sustainability requirements to understand the physical behavior of material in the process.
MTorres seeks to strengthen the Virtual Commissioning by integrating detailed physical simulation models of their Paper Converting Machines. This allows automation tests, controller validations, process & material changes or different activation sequences in a virtual environment without time-intensive test runs or building costly prototypes. Software used: Simcenter Amesim plus Multiphysics Package including the Converting Toolbox library, Functional Mockup Unit (FMU), SIMIT, PLCSIM Advanced Supply customer with tailored physical models of their machines as standalone FMU to be used in virtual commissioning
The digital twin enabled us to reduce the total development time of a machine series from 30 months to 11 months that means a cost reduction by more than 60 %
Carlos Esparza, Service & Automation Director, MTorres
By using Multiphysics Simulation Software, the engineering and testing time was reduced from 30 to just 11 months, resulting in over 60% less development effort.
Simulation enhances web tension control in roll-to-roll processes, predicts web shifting/ wrinkle generation by design, eliminates the need for real prototypes, allows virtual testing of different kinematics all without material waste.
