Keeping the flow moving in this busy quarry is a priority. Sometimes larger pieces—or too much granodiorite at once— land in the jaw crusher. In these cases, the crusher isn’t able to deal with this much material in its chamber—blocking the flow of stone from the quarry. Operators must then manually use jackhammers to reduce the size of the boulders and get the aggregate flow back on track. Operators required a system that was able to run shaker screens on and off and provide warnings at pre-determined levels for smooth operation.
The SITRANS LT500’s relays turn the shaker screens on and off, depending on the height of rocks in the crusher. And based on process conditions, the controller’s alarms provide warnings when materials reach a pre-programmed level. The compact 80 GHz SITRANS LR120 radar transmitter was ideal in this application because its narrow four-degree beam angle measures farther down into the tight opening of the jaw crusher. The previous sensor used here had a wider beam and was detecting the walls of the crusher, resulting in a noisy signal.
  • saves time and quickly alerts when materials stop moving
  • can check readings on SITRANS mobile IQ app to see how the crusher is performing
  • easy access via Bluetooth connection to commission and monitor using a smartphone or tablet
