The customer aimed to implement a reliable tracking system for anode and cathode coils across a complex battery manufacturing process to improve traceability, eliminate manual errors, and integrate seamlessly with automation and MES systems.
Siemens, in collaboration with Prism Systems, implemented a SIMATIC RFID-based tracking solution with RF650 readers, antennas, and RFID tags, combined with custom software integration to connect with HMI, automation systems, and MES, enabling real-time tracking across the production process.
The solution enabled full traceability of high-value materials representing 60% to 80% of battery cell costs, eliminated manual tracking errors, reduced production delays, and delivered a rapid return on investment within just a few months while improving visibility and operational efficiency across the manufacturing process.
