SCAMM aimed to modernize its sheet metal forming machines by adopting a fully integrated digital automation framework. Their goal was to enhance machine performance, simplify the management of long and complex production lines, and ensure greater scalability for future configurations. They also sought a unified HMI platform capable of improving usability, reducing engineering and commissioning times, and centralizing interface management across the entire system. Ultimately, SCAMM wanted a flexible, future‑proof solution that would allow them to accelerate innovation while maintaining full control over their production process.

Together with Siemens, SCAMM adopted WinCC Unified as the new HMI standard, enabling a modern, user-friendly interface and simplified management of long and complex production lines. The solution is based on a Software Controller that combines the reliability of SIMATIC S7-1500 with the power and flexibility of an industrial PC, integrating PLC, advanced Motion Control and Safety functions in a single environment.
Thanks to the centralized HMI architecture and Collaboration technology, the operator interface is managed from a central PC, while only the necessary pages are distributed to the various substations along the line.

The system is fully adaptive: the HMI dynamically configures itself based on PLC data, while alarms are defined directly in the PLC using ProDiag, ensuring maximum flexibility for future machine configurations.
