Southeastern has prioritised the modernisation of their inspection and maintenance routines, through the use of automated vehicle inspection systems. Supported by Siemens Mobility, Southeastern will be empowered through the digitalisation of their inspection data, to optimise their maintenance routines for the promotion of fleet safety, availability and prevention of disruptions.
In 2023, Southeastern Trains Limited and Siemens Mobility signed a contract for the installation and maintenance of an Automated Vehicle Inspection System at the Ramsgate depot. Designed to provide key, automated insights into fleet health—with particular emphasis on wheels, brakes, collector shoes and general visual inspection—the solution supports a more consistent, data-led approach to inspection activities. The project was delivered in March 2026, with installation and dynamic commissioning completed through close, joint working between Siemens Mobility and the customer’s depot and engineering teams, and the system successfully handed over to operations.
