Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG is an independent company from Siemens AG. Siemens Energy is a global leader in energy technology, providing solutions for power generation, transmission, and industrial applications with a strong focus on sustainability. In the battery sector, Siemens Energy is advancing energy storage solutions to support grid stability, integrate renewable energy, and enhance industrial applications.  

As of in February 2027, a Battery Passport will be required for batteries, as mandated by the upcoming EU Battery Regulation. Ensuring compliance with this regulation is a significant challenge for Economic Operators like Siemens Energy. They must manage over 90 distinct data attributes per battery, ensuring accurate collection across the entire value chain, proper data management, and secure sharing with stakeholders such as regulatory authorities.  

To take the first step toward compliance, Siemens Energy engaged us for a proof of concept using our Siemens Battery Passport Software—aimed at assessing their data readiness, evaluating potential architecture including API connections to their cloud systems, and gaining a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory requirements. The early launch of the Pilot Battery Passport project reflects Siemens Energy's commitment to its sustainability strategy.

The Siemens Battery Passport software fully supports compliance with the upcoming regulation by managing all mandatory data attributes, facilitating data collection from suppliers, and enabling secure data sharing with end-users, third parties, and authorities. Public data is made accessible to end-users via a QR code on the battery.  

As part of this project, Siemens Energy was given access to the software, and Siemens experts provided comprehensive support in interpreting regulatory requirements, developing an implementation roadmap, and ultimately executing a pilot that generated the first Battery Passports.
Achived results:

• Battery Passports Created: Implemented APIs to successfully collect both static and dynamic data, enabling the creation of the first compliant Battery Passports.

• Data Readiness Assessed: Performed a detailed assessment to analyze the status and further needs of data readiness to be inputted into the Battery Passport.  

• Process Testing and Optimization: Defined supplier onboarding and data handling workflows to comply with anticipated regulatory requirements.  

• User Testing and New Features: Adapted the software based on Siemens Energy user needs.  

• Technical Proficiency: Conducted in-depth training sessions focusing on backend operations to prepare the Siemens Energy team for managing the system within a regulated framework.  

• Catena-X Exploration: Analyzed the potential for integration with the Catena-X platform.
