Easy first steps in CNC technology for maintenance without experience, through self-taught "on-the-job training". The aim is to produce spare parts required at short notice in-house, in order to avoid longer process interruptions. A CAD/CAM connection was to be used to create NC programs for more complex spare parts according CAD templates from the NX CAD system.

A first provisional CAD/CAM process workflow was implemented by the maintenance crew using freely available tools.

The JobShop interface makes it easier to get started with CNC programming and operation, and quickly leads to good results. The maintenance crew was able to produce the first parts after two days, and a CAD/CAM connection was implemented with freely available tools after one month. From the outset, replacement parts and fixtures could be fabricated faster than with external procurement. Since then, multiple production stops at the factory have been prevented.
