Škoda Group is bringing brand new trams to Bergamo, Italy. These sleek, 33-meter vehicles will carry up to 281 passengers. Because of this, having excellent fire safety isn't just important – it's essential. The local transport team wanted more than just fire alarms; they wanted a system that would fit perfectly with their advanced trams. Specifically, they aimed to:

• Enhances cybersecurity by replacing old, separate fire control panels.
• Simplifies architecture with detectors directly linked to the main control system.
• Allows in-house management for tighter IT oversight.
• Operates reliably even in busy urban settings.
• Uses durable, fire-resistant V0 materials.
• Meets industry standards (EN 50155 and SIL2) with a cost-efficient, stand-alone approach.

Siemens provided stand-alone fire detectors that change how things are usually done for the Škoda ForCity Classic 49T trams. Instead of using a separate fire control panel, our advanced stand-alone fire detectors (made from tough V0 material) connect directly to the tram's main control system, the Train Control and Management System (TCMS). This special setup lets the tram operator manage and secure the fire detection system themselves. It turns fire safety from a separate task into a key, secure part of the tram's overall computer network. This approach not only makes the system simpler but also offers a unified way to check for fires, ensuring constant, reliable detection tailored for Bergamo's new tram lines.
