SVEX NV (Indaver/Veolia JV)
operates a fluidized bed furnace to co-incinerate wastewater sludge with
industrial waste and recover energy via a steam boiler.
They required a solution
to optimize combustion to improve their energy production while reducing
carbon footprint and supporting sustainability targets.
The measurement location was
highly demanding, with gas temperatures of around 950°C and a heavily
dust-laden, corrosive process atmosphere.
The objective was to
continuously maintain optimal O2 levels to achieve complete
combustion and stable furnace operation.
The solution includes
SITRANS TDL oxygen analyzer for in-situ, continuous measurement directly
in the furnace.
Based on tunable
diode laser absorption spectroscopy, the solution delivered highly accurate and
fast measurements of O2 levels with minimal maintenance.
The sensors were strategically arranged within the furnace to obtain a representative sample of the combustion
gases, providing real-time data on oxygen levels.
Integrated into the control system, the oxygen data enabled precise monitoring and adjustment of the air-to-fuel ratio, ensuring optimal O2 levels for complete combustion, reduced unburned fuel, and minimized CO and NOx emissions.
No calibration of SITRANS TDL was required so far and
the device stays stable since day one, delivering steadily the right
concentration of O2 measurment.
