The original plan was to build a 5 MW test cell and within five years about 10 MW.
Siemens was able to power the 10 MW motor with the same variable frequency drive (VFD) as the 5 MW motor. Due to this the university was able to move that goal up by about three years. With the installation of an integrated solution, the motor and the drive are working together not only with the current test cell but also with future test cells.

Due to the installation of integrated drive system the university gets off the external grid and put power back to the internal grid, so they can charge a lesser rate to their customers.The Siemens motors were selected for all of their major components.
