Many of the performed tasks at the EWF are ineffective, since there is no repeat aspect in production and with up to 2,500 boxes being transported in the production facility, a lot of time during production is spent on searching. Hence, Electronics Works Fuerth wants to reduce the time searching for materials.

To accomplish the customers requirement Siemens provided a solution based on SIMATIC RTLS and Location Intelligence.  
Transponders of the real-time locating system (SIMATIC RTLS) are attached to the objects of interest (boxes) and within the web-based software expansion Location Intelligence, the transponders are associated with an order. In case of missing material, the user of Location Intelligence can simply type in the respective order ID and the real-time position of the associated transponders are visualized on the factory layout of the customer.

The Electronics Works in Fuerth (EWF) is quite a special one. On the one hand, they are producing products for their own business unit, on the other hand, however, they also act as a manufacturing service provider for the entire Siemens organization. For that reason, the nature of their business is low volume, high mix.
