The cigar manufacturer J. Cortès has two production sites in Belgium and about 3600 employees around the world. At its site in Handzame, the company was looking for a fail-proof weighing system to maintain the necessary balance in terms of flavor. Based in Torhout, the industrial weighing expert Bascules Robbe therefore turned to Siemens. Together, they offered a complete and customized solution.
The production process consists of several stages.
After being removed from the mixing drum, the tobacco is conveyed via an elevating conveyor with the Siemens SINAMICS G120C unit to the SITRANS WW200 weighfeeder.
The weighfeeder sends a setpoint to the system to deter-mine the perfect amount of flavor that is sprayed on the tobacco.
Following this process, a third system regulates the spraying.
The so prepared tobacco is then poured back into a mixing tank.
The accuracy of the weighfeeder‘s signal is crucial considering the legal prescriptions to comply with in terms of flavor dosing.
We had already chosen Bascules Robbe in the past and since the company worked with Siemens, we were very confident they would develop the best solution
