On May 3 2019, the European NIS
Directive (directive on security of network and information systems) was transposed into a Belgian national law. As Operator of Essential Services
(OES), FARYS had to become compliant with this new cybersecurity law.
NIS compliance 4.0 approach IC4, Siemens & Vandelanotte set up a pragmatic and comprehensive approach to support customers in becoming NIS compliant with:
Organizational
consulting by IC4
Technical
consulting by Siemens (incl. IEC 62443 Assessment)
Legal
consulting by Vandelanotte
All four requirements for NIS compliance (Reporting, security, information & supervisory obligations) are covered by the NIS compliance 4.0 approach.
NIS compliance 4.0 was the ideal
approach for us. It showed us exactly what we needed to do and helped us draw
up a roadmap. By combining our internal knowledge with that of the partners, we
were able to efficiently increase the cybersecurity maturity within our
company. After all, a secure supply of drinking water is in the interest of
every citizen.
Gerd De Mey, ICT Manager at FARYS
NIS compliance 4.0 provided FARYS a
clear roadmap to NIS compliance.
A synergy was found between the
knowledge/experience available within FARYS’ internal IT/OT cybersecurity teams
and the expert know-how of external consultants in the domains of ISO 27001 and
IEC 62443.
FARYS
plays an important public role in Belgium by providing
drinking water to more than 600,000 customers, collecting
and transporting waste water for cities and municipalities and supporting
in sports and facility management.
