Strategic plan to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent at all seven of
its production sites and cut its carbon emissions in half by 2030.
Up with energy efficiency, down with costs.
A need for company-wide transparency, data quality, standardization, and
reporting.
For this initial large-scale collaborative project, Siemens offered an
impressive overall solution that included everything from consulting to
implementation of software and hardware from the field level to the management
level.
The centerpiece of this cross-factory process and energy
optimization in production is the Simatic Energy Manager PRO energy
management system.
The services provided by the Siemens team include the engineering,
supply, installation, and commissioning of the electrical and non-electrical
metering points and connection to Simatic Energy Manager PRO. For example,
water metering: Siemens selected Sitrans FS clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters
with non-intrusive sensors that could be installed during operation without
having to cut the pipe. Another example is the vortex flow meters: Siemens
chose Sitrans FX330 flow meters due to their extremely high accuracy and
extremely low pressure losses.
“We made the right choice with Siemens, because we were impressed by the company’s turnkey solution from the field level to the management level.”
Georg Feith, CEO, Stoelzle Glass Group
Quality: International turnkey project with overall solution from the field level to the management level.
Energy efficiency and costs: EnMPRO from Siemens is the most important tool for boosting energy efficiency at Stoelzle. Each energy-saving measure can be identified and also verified, thanks to the data.
Transparency, data quality, standardization, and reporting: Implementation of EnPRO at all seven European sites.
Sustainability: Possibility of seamless follow-up projects with solutions like SiGreen.
For over 200 years, the Stoelzle Glass Group
has been manufacturing high-end glass containers for the pharmaceutical,
perfumery and cosmetics, spirits, and food and beverage industries. Its Medical
and Laboratory Department completes the company’s offering with comprehensive
laboratory consumables, instruments, closures, and small quantities. The
company is based in Köflach, Austria. In 2021, some 3,200 employees generated a
turnover of €416.5 million. In addition to nine Europe-wide production and
decoration sites, Stoelzle Glass USA became Stoelzle’s first American
production site in March of 2021.
Since the project was launched in early 2021, all seven factories have been
taking steps to connect to the energy management system, with the Köflach site
leading the way. By the end of 2022, all the other European factories will be
connected via the company-wide WAN, and the U.S. location, which has been part
of the company since March of 2021, will follow in 2023.
