When modernizing their sewage treatment plant Calvià 2000 wanted to ensure that their plant operates with the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Calvià needed to integrate all their
facilities in a single SCADA control center through S7 protocol, OPC UA. They
needed a modern, scalable solution with built-in reporting functionality to be more efficient and reduce energy consumption.
Siemens technologies
that made it possible:
TIA Portal: TIA Portal is the
gateway to digital enterprise automation. By using TIA Portal, together
with WinCC Unified, a 75% reduction in engineering time has been achieved.
According to Magdalena Martínez Conti, plant operator at Calvià 2000,
"total transparency of energy consumption in the water treatment
processes" has been achieved.
WinCC Unified System: "By
customizing the visualization of our facilities with WinCC Unified, we can see
possible errors or consumption graphs, start-up or shutdowns in record
time" emphasizes Josep Pallicer, maintenance manager at Calvià 2000. In
addition, WinCC Unified provides the Mallorcan company with real-time
information on the main energy consumption indicators of the facilities in
order to make the best decisions and optimize processes.
SIMATIC S7-1500 R/Hredundant:
The high-availability redundant CPUs of the S7-1500 R/H range minimize
production downtime and avoid loss of process data. The engineering
corresponds to that of a standard CPU. The TIA Portal and the redundant CPUs
manage the synchronization of programs and data. No additional user workload is
required. This is engineering efficiency.
AI Energy Meter 480 VAC ST: With AI Energy
Meter 480VAC ST, Calvià 2000 can configure up to 200 different energy and
electrical measurement values, and thus obtain full energy transparency of your
process. You can also determine the energy consumption and power consumption
based on the measured values provided by the AI Energy Meter. In addition, the
company can use the measured data for reporting and to determine the carbon
footprint.
Remote control of pumping stations with S7-1200: The water
collection collectors are connected to the wastewater treatment plant and
travel for miles and miles through a system of canals. Remote control systems
based on TIA Portal and S7-1200 CPUs integrate all these remote units directly
into the management and control system.
„We have reduced engineering times by 75%
compared to the previous solution we had implemented.“

Sustainability. Siemens technology has achieved a 15%
reduction in energy consumption at the Calvià WWTP.
·
Efficient engineering. The use of Siemens WinCC
Unified and TIA Portal has allowed a 75% reduction in engineering time compared
to the solution that Calvià 2000 had previously implemented.
·
Standardization. Calvià 2000 has achieved a reduction
in operator training times and an 85% decrease in human errors thanks to
Siemens SCADA/HMI technology.
·
Transparency. Thanks to the WinCC Unified Collaboration option, Siemens has set up a web server in a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that is responsible for managing web client access
for remote operation, providing transparency to all Calvià 2000 plants.
Calvià
2000 is the municipal company of the Majorcan town of Calvià and is in charge
of the sewage network, the purification and regeneration of water and the
collection of waste.
Calvià was
looking for a SCADA solution for its wastewater treatment plant control center.
