Sustainability
Siemens Smart Infrastructure and WUN H2 GmbH have built one of the largest hydrogen production plants in Germany, in Wunsiedel in the north of Bavaria. The plant runs solely on renewable energy and is CO2-free. It has a nominal capacity of 9 MW and produces up to 1,350 tons of green hydrogen per year.
Developing and implementing a holistic concept for hydrogen supply:
    • Construction of local, turnkey PEM electrolysis with an installed power of 8.75 MW – completely supplied from renewable energy sources.
    • Siemens supports the entire process including simulation, planning, construction, operation and monitoring of the facility.
    • Establishing an operating company (Siemens AG holds a stake of 45%).
„Step by step we have been implementing our decarbonization strategy for several years. In this process, generating CO2-free hydrogen for applications in industry and mobility is an important element.”
Marco Krasser – Managing Director SWW Wunsiedel GmbH and Co-founder of WUN H2
    • Decarbonization of regional industry and mobility
    • Achieving security of supply with CO2-free hydrogen
    • Reducing long transport distances of hydrogen for industrial processes
