Customer Situation / Objectives
The existing video management system in the area unit had reached its operational life span and needed to be renewed. For this purpose, it was important that all functions remain in place or be optimized for the operator.
The following requirements are covered:
Monitoring and operation of up to 1000 cameras
Possibility to implement up to 200 decoders in the system
Switching of a camera stream to any decoder
Automatic event switching on the video wall in configurable control centers
Manual camera feeds for traffic monitoring
Accessible via a web browser
The
task was to replace the old video management system while at the same time
reducing costs and increasing efficiency. In addition, it was important to rely
on easy integration of further components. The HMI and camera activation times
should also be improved. Further, accessibility of the application via web was
another requirement.
The implementation was done via the system software WinCC Open Architecture (WinCC OA 3.18) and meets all the customer requirements. Required interfaces could be covered with the product's standard tools.
The
most important facts of the reference include the implementation of more than
450 cameras and more than 80 decoders divided between five control centers with
automatic event switching.
The
application is responsible for monitoring traffic safety for the entire GEXI
area unit on the A2 motorway between the Beckried junction and on the A4 between the Küssnacht am
Rigi junction and the south portal of the Gotthard road tunnel in Airolo.
Depending on the event, the system automatically activates cameras in the
control centers. Furthermore, camera programs can be switched to the video wall
for additional surveillance.
This project shows the diversity and possibility of WinCC OA
Michael Greiner, BECC GmbH
The basic system WinCC OA offers all relevant requirements of a modern SCADA system and is already widely used by customers. Improving the activation times of the HMI and camera on the video wall and smooth operation by the user result in an increase in system productivity. The end customer opted for a Siemens solution because the WinCC OA product has been in use for many years and offers very stable functionality. The very positive experience with the reliable system integrator, BECC GmbH, also makes work easier and stands for excellent cooperation. Customer benefit:
Stability and usability of the systems also with multiple integrated components
Display and assignment of the event triggers in the associated control panels
Convenient video display in the SCADA system

federal authority for road infrastructure and private road traffic. The video management system of the Swiss territorial unit GEXI is responsible for the monitoring and control of the video setups in the surveillance centers. The system includes all video cameras (over 450) on the A2 freeway between the Beckried junction and on the A4 between the Küssnacht am Rigi junction to the south portal of the Gotthard road tunnel in Airolo.
