Why:
The Finnish machine builder A-tekniikka Oy, which specialises in the production of studding machines, has set itself the goal of producing nothing less than the fastest studding machine in the world. Previously, the mechanical concept of the machine had to be adapted for each tire that was to be studded – a very time-consuming manual process. Together with A-tekniikka Siemens created a digital twin to test different mechanical solutions and plc code implementation. The aim was to control the studding tool with software without any mechanical changes.
How:
Siemens created together with A-tekniikka Oy three different virtual prototypes. With the NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (MCD) mechanical movements where simulated and connected to SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced. With the SIMATIC STEP 7 (TIA Portal) the kinematics where calculated. Through the simulation, the best possible mechanical and automation solution was developed. What:
