Recipe optimization with Model Predictive Control (MPC)
on Industrial Edge - Live Twin, AI SDK and Vision Connector
Sustainability
MPC enables the simultaneous optimization of multiple variables and their interactions. In the context of grow recipes, this means that MPC can optimize various environmental and growth parameters concurrently, considering their interdependencies. For example, it can balance temperature, humidity, and light levels to achieve optimal growth conditions, taking into account the different sensitivities and interactions of these variables with plant growth.
Implementing the MPC models into IE Live Twin it can dynamically adjust control setpoints based on real-time conditions, optimizing resource usage while still meeting plant growth objectives. This efficiency can lead to reduced energy consumption, lower resource costs, and improved sustainability of plant growth operations.
Our vision is that farmers using our technologies will only need to determine which plants they want to cultivate, and what properties the plants should have. All other tasks, such as sowing, watering, fertilizing and harvesting, must be automated and run efficiently and transparently. In our model laboratory, we show in-house and external customers that this is how the future could look.
Rudolf Sollacher - Research Scientist
Model Predictive Control provides a powerful framework for optimizing grow recipes by considering the dynamic nature of plant growth systems, optimizing multiple variables, handling constraints, promoting resource efficiency, and ensuring process safety. These advantages make MPC an effective tool for achieving optimal plant growth in various cultivation settings.
