The German company bavius technologie has been a leading manufacturer of 5-axis CNC machining centers for high-speed machining of large structural parts and profiles for over 40 years. In the aerospace industry, their focus is particularly on producing aluminum structural components.
2018/19, bavius was faced with the decision of which control system to use for the new AeroCell 5-axis horizontal machining center: the familiar and proven SINUMERIK 840D sl or the new, future-proof SINUMERIK One. Premise: Nothing was allowed to change for the user. The machine must be able to be operated and programmed as before, existing NC programs must run without adaptation. Ideally without lengthy training.

bavius opted for the early use of SINUMERIK ONE with the new, fail-safe SIMATIC S7-1500F PLC and the digital twin. As usual, Siemens provided support at all levels, including mechatronic support for the implementation of new NC functions. For the first time, the OEM used TIA Portal, the function-oriented "Basic Program plus" interface, Top Surface with a new compressor, Top Speed plus with axis-specific jerk filters. For some time now, the OEM has relied on an end-to-end process chain with Teamcenter, NX CAD/CAM, MCD, CMVM from Siemens.  Basic Program plus is the interface between the PLC and the NC core and enables modern, high-level, end-to-end symbolic programming in Structured Control Language (SCL). SIMATIC S7-1500F integrates standard and safety programming for PLC and NC. The digital twin helps to safeguard the design and processes.
