The introduction of the current "Streamline" container and carton conveyor system in 2010 forced the redesign of planning processes including the renewal of the software systems.
In the electrical system planning the combination of a software for creating circuit diagrams and MS Excel for pre-planning reached its limits.
At the end of the very thorough selection procedure, the choice went to the lifecycle engineering and plant management software COMOS by Siemens.
"COMOS helps us to significantly increase the degree of automation in engineering."
Jörg Bergmann, Director Engineering & Manufacturing at the KNAPP AG
COMOS is based on an object-oriented approach, changes to objects are made centrally and are available for all users immediately.
COMOS offers comprehensive possibilities for active software development.
The engineering tasks provided by COMOS take over corresponding actions, such as the creation of circuit diagrams, automatically.
With COMOS the degree of automation was increased significantly – considerable time benefits could be achieved.
The KNAPP AG headquartered in Styria's Hart bei Graz provides complete intralogistic solutions, automated warehousing systems, and tailor-made software solutions to all the world. What started as a specialized mechanical engineering business in 1952 has now grown into the epitome of flexible and efficient logistics solutions. The core sectors include health care, fashion, retail/e-commerce, food retail, and industry.
For the greatest possible accuracy, efficiency, and consistency, the company uses the support of networked software systems that are continually developed and optimized within the company. So the planning systems that the mechanics and electro-technicians used had to support the same system labeling method and be able to exchange data with the Middleware EDM, the central Engineering Data Management developed by KNAPP.
