Düsseldorf,
Germany
  • High-performance and reliable connection of vehicles and cabins
  • Data gathering of status and diagnostic information while moving
  • Providing of dynamic information about stops and progress of journey
  • Reliable and easy-to-maintain solution for maximum operational safety
The SkyTrain at Düsseldorf Airport transports passengers comfortably to the terminal and the gates. In the future, the fully automated cabin railway will provide even greater convenience – with a passenger information system and even more demand-based timing. The foundation for this was laid by the operator in form of a reliable network solution and state-of-the-art technologies for wireless communication.
  • IWLAN components ensure that the trains always have a connection to the network, without any latency during the roaming process
  • SCALANCE W Access Points and Client Modules deliver redundant communication between the trains and the stationary network using the Industrial Parallel Redundancy Protocol (iPRP)
  • Segmentation of the stationary and mobile systems of the network via SCALANCE XP208PoE EEC and SCALANCE X204RNA EEC Switches
“Thanks to the new communication solution, we can read out a variety of information from the train operation and thereby optimize it.”
Christian Höveler, SkyTrain systems engineer, Düsseldorf Airport
  • Robust, reliable communication thanks to certified EEC variants of SCALANCE devices featuring industry-specific functions
  • Information acquired while moving helps optimize the operation of the railway
  • Solution as good foundation for new passenger information system
  • 10 years of guaranteed spare parts availability
  • Siemens as competent partner in all project phases
Düsseldorf Airport is the third largest airport in Germany. For the SkyTrain – a fully automated cabin railway with a track length of 2.5 kilometers and 6 trains, each with 2 permanently coupled cabins – the operator was looking for a wireless communication solution to read out status and diagnostic information while moving, and to provide passengers with dynamic information about stops and the progress of the journey.
