Sklostroj Turnov CZ, s.r.o., glass machine manufacturer, Turnov, Czech Republic, glass industry, 200 employees, complete production lines for hollow glass, as well as plant components such as IS machines and stand-alone systems like E-pushers, stackers, feeders, shears, gob distributors, and much more, www.sklostroj.cz/e
Objectives:
  • Necessity of future viability of the systems / Savings in engineering costs
  • Need for cost cutting for tests with real hardware
  • Possibility for initial trainings before the real machine is in operation
  • Exploiting the many advantages of virtual commissioning
Using the latest motion control system based on SIMATIC, Sklostroj wanted furthermore to exploite the many advantages of virtual commissioning, using SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced, SIMIT and NX Mechatronic Concept Designer. Sklostroj started with its E-pushers and will gradually be expanded to include other systems, machines, and plants.
For the transition to SIMATIC motion control, the customer exploits the many advantages of virtual commissioning. By combining simulation software SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced with simulation platform SIMIT and NX Mechatronics Concept Designer kinematics software, Sklostroj can test and optimize the machines and their behavior in 3D using any number of simulation procedures and without any real hardware. The Software in the Loop (SiL) principle is currently being used in the new E-pushers, and other machine components are expected to follow.
We were impressed by SIMATIC motion control from the very start because the motion control functionalities are scalable and the technology objects are extremely powerful. In a time when there’s a shortage of skilled workers, it’s a huge advantage for us if engineering is simple, if we can access many integrated simulation tools, and if operators can enter their settings even more easily and optimally.
Jan Koren, Operations Director at Sklostroj
  • Operators can enter their settings even more easily and optimally / simulations for initial trainings
  • Collaboration on a joint model thanks to the digital twin
  • More efficient development process (purely software based)
  • Shorter time to actual commissioning and time-to-market
  • Minimized conversion times and outages / faults can be avoided during ongoing operation
