Project

The flow through the reactor has to be precisely controlled by a efficient and powerful compressor train with highly reliable motor drive system.

Challenge

Production of propylene from propane is a complex petrochemical process. The challenge was to build a highly reliable system to keep the piping in the complex process chain under constant pressure.

Solution The entire PDH process is formed by three compressors trains built from SIMOTICS HV-Motors and SINAMICS GL150 & GM150 frequency converters. There are 2 x 4-pole HV-Motors with 34 MW which are the first high speed motors in China. The installed SINAMICS GL150 frequency converter is the largest converter in China. He is controlling and optimizing the motors in the compressor trains. The SINAMICS GM150 frequency converter is designed as a special and worldwide unique tandem solution. It gives the possibility to feed power to the motors from two sides.Refernce - Video click here

Benefits

  • Compressors are running nearly 24/7 because of the reliability of the drive system
China is the world´s largest propylene producing country. Propylene is a byproduct of certain refining processes but that is not enough to meet the world´s demand. This propylene shortage has the consequence that propylene must be created from propane, so there were many investments in technology in the last years to meet the global increasing demand for propylene. Oriental Energy Corporation has two facilities in China and produces in each facility 600,000 tons on purpose propylene per year through propane dehydrogenation.
