COMI is an Italian builder of thermoforming machines for different industries, exporting worldwide. As a long-time partner of Siemens PMA, COMI trusts on SIMATIC products and used WinCC Advanced in the previous projects.
Objectives:
Due to the high turnover of staff in their end customers factories (e.g. Electrolux), the learning times to operate on the COMI machines needed to be reduced. As a possible solution they thought of making a self-explanatory, easier to use, UI with an improved UX.
Siemens was chosen because it has always been a reliable technological partner with a long-term winning strategy. The new system consists of WinCC Unified (PC RT 5K, 1000 Logging Tags, Parameter Control) in combination with a powerful Simatic IPC and S7-1500 PLCs.
Thanks to WinCC Unified technology and openess, COMI machines now offer modern User Inteface with a user exprience similar to what young operators are used to from mobile devices. As a consequence, learning time and mistakes by operators are reduced by 10%. Moreover, COMI automated its processes and so increased productivity by 10% and is now able to win new customers and to acccess new market
The project of the Siemens partner (40-factory.com) started with a brand-new UI/UX design made by Figma (figma.com). The final result shared with COMI, consisting of a brand new SVGs library and a template for the screens, was then applied in WinCC Unified. A CWC completed the project to load the machine settings through a JSON file prepared outside WinCC.
