IBERFAR is a dedicated pharmaceutical contract manufacturer operating a significant EU cGMP manufacturing site located near Lisbon. Its core business is the manufacturing of solid and liquid dosage forms for third parties having as distinctive competencies quality, short delivery dates and a very flexible adjustment to the needs of all clients. New market opportunities required Iberfar to increase the flexibility in their production lines for mass-customization capabilities.

Working close with the customer, Siemens used its Xcelerator portfolio (Digital Twin, Automation and OT/IT connectivity) to develop and deliver, a new concept of smart machine with modular design, virtually designed and commissioned, aimed to reduce the delivery time and provide the customer with a solution to convert standard single-use existing lines to high-mix/ low-volume capable lines. The solution merges existing machines with new functional modules, that can easily be adapted together, to respond to new production requirements, extending machine lifecycle and sustainability, with future oriented connection interfaces.
