Launched in 2017, Nasekomo is an agro biotech startup revolutionizing the human food chain by producing animal feeds from organic waste using bioconverting insects. Aiming to reduce food waste, greenhouse gas emissions and depletion of such resources as water, arable lands and marine life stocks, Nasekomo introduces insects to the food life cycle unleashing their beneficial potential for tomorrow’s sustainable world.
The startup’s plan to deploy its proprietary robotized insect rearing technology internationally could have a significant impact on sustainable agriculture and food production.
Nasekomo wants to leverage digitalization to industrialize engineering and manufacturing processes, gaining higher productivity and cost efficiency over all (future) manufacturing locations. As a start-up, Nasekomo does not aspire to undergo Digital Transformation but rather needs guidance with setting up their operations technology in a way that leverages Digitalization in a future-proof way. In the near future, scalability, in combination with cost effectiveness, is the main concern of Nasekomo, in order to operationalize their AI driven business model of optimizing, growing and processing larvae in a global network of franchisees.
Siemens provided creative digitalzation consulting services to develop a future-digital platform capable of supporting up to 200 greenfield production sites. The following consulting services were performed:
Analyzed the current production site and identified the existing degree of digitalization.
Developed solution ideas for closing the identified digitization gaps. Ideas were built on fundamental framework conditions such as digitization strategy, capabilities and market trends and challenges and the combined experiences of Siemens and Nasekomo experts.
Based on the analysis, the most important solutions for the digitalization of Nasekomo were defined, evaluated and, the most applicable of them, were implemented as needed.
The structure and logical sequencing of selected digitization projects was prepared in a high-level implementation roadmap to enable planning and developing the next steps.

Nasekomo was honored to win the Startup Award at a special event organized by the French-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce. The awards focused on all the innovation that Bulgarian companies develop in Bulgaria, and Nasekomo was among several very worthy contestants for the Startup Award.
Nasekomo becomes the Chivas Venture Finalist for Bulgaria 2018
Nasekomo won the prestigious award for social entrepreneurship competing with other socially-responsible companies from Bulgaria. Now, it’s off to Amsterdam for the global finals in May, where we will be among representatives of 27 other countries!
