The client required an upgrade to their two current legacy telemetry systems and to improve monitoring/control for their water and wastewater systems assets across the local government area. In total 43 existing telemetry sites upgraded; most sites required a new telemetry enclosure the remaining required a retrofit into existing switchboards. The client also required that the two system legacy systems to be amalgamated together.
The telemetry system allows for remote communication between water infrastructure units, such as reservoirs and pumping stations. This system is crucial for monitoring and controlling vital infrastructure to provide safe and secure water across the network.

The S7-1200 platform along with the CP1243-1 (DNP3) Communication Processor were the RTU/PLC products of choice for this project. As all the products used are engineered in TIA Portal V17, this made it an easy choice for R & D Technology as multiple software platforms were not required.
Upon completion of the project, the client experience an increased remote-control functionality, monitoring, smarter alarming, event, and data history logging (for diagnostics and planning). A decrease in the response times in reaction to potential water and sewer events by sending alerts directly to staff who assist with preventing water quality and supply issues.

The project is located in the central western region of New South Wales, Australia. This project is traversed by the Newell Highway. The Warrumbungle mountain range and Warrumbungles National Park are major tourist attractions for the area.
